he National Association of Libraries and Information Professionals Saint Lucia congratulates the Micoud Public Library on being awarded the Public Library Innovation Award from the international organisation Electronic Information for Libraries (EIFL). Peace Corps workers Barbara Trecker and Nicole Gaston and other colleagues applied for this award based on the job finding workshop organised by Barbara and her colleagues at the Micoud Public Library. This award demonstrates how libraries are important community resources that provide a range of services and information resources (not just obsolete buildings full of mouldy books as suggested by key decision makers. This puts Saint Lucian libraries in the spotlight as an international success story and is a great opportunity for the St. Lucia Public Library, and United States Peace Corps to be recognised for the truly important and meaningful work they are engaged in here in the Eastern Caribbean!
This award will allow the Micoud Library staff member Shawnette to attend the International Federation of Library Associations (IFLA) conference in Ohio in August 2016 to accept the award. The award also comes with $1500 USD prize which the Micoud Public Library can use to purchase new resources and materials for their patrons.
